Specialty Gases

Metro Welding supply and Cryogenic Gases is home to a lab accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standards.. At our Detroit facility we have experienced technicians capable of producing precision blends for super critical low tolerance applications. These mixtures are required for the oil and refining industries, laboratory and research facilities, and testing facilities. Calibration gases mix different single gases to create a gas with the properties needed for a specific project. You can select from reactive and non-reactive gases, as well as single mixtures or multiple gas mixtures. We produce certified gas mixtures, primary standard gas mixtures, laser gas mixtures, and welding gas mixtures to exacting standards. We are efficient and timely, and can usually cut your current supplier’s lead time in half.

Argon gas is a noble, inert, gas which has several industrial, laboratory, medical, and manufacturing applications. Metro Welding supply has experience designing and installing specialty gas systems designed to suit the individual needs of Fabrication facilities, Research Laboratories, Geological and Water Testing facilities, and metallurgic laboratories. We have onsite mixing capabilities for all Argon based welding gas mixtures. This includes argon/oxygen mixtures; helium/argon mixtures; carbon dioxide/argon mixtures. We have installed systems for both low volume firms as well as systems for large bulk requirements. We also design and install systems suitable for Ultra High Purity critical applications. Call us today to discuss how we can simplify your process and deliver what you need, when you need it.

Carbon Dioxide is a unique molecule with vast commercial, industrial, and food applications. Metro Welding supply has installed systems which suit the unique requirements of each of these industries. Our capabilities include bulk and micro-bulk systems, cylinder and multiple cylinder manifold systems and reserve systems. Metro Welding Supply has the unique ability to react to your requirements, and deliver on a timely and consistent basis.

Carbon Dioxide is a colorless gas with a slightly pungent odor and biting taste. It will not burn, support combustion or sustain life. It is about 1.5 times heavier than air. Normally stored as a liquid, carbon dioxide exists only as a solid or gas at room conditions. The solid CO2 snow transforms (sublimes) directly to a gas without passing through the liquid phase.

The Compressed Gas Association (CGA) specification G-6.2, Grade H is considered standard for commercial carbon dioxide.

Helium is a Rare Gas. It is a finite resource with varied and vast applications. Helium molecules are tiny which make them perfect for leak testing and mass spectrometry. It is also used for laser welding, aluminum welding, and is mixed with other gases for use with stainless steel welding. Helium is extremely cold in liquid form. Combined with its inert nature, helium is the perfect molecule to keep superconducting magnets super cool. Whether it is designing and installing a precision bulk onsite mixing system or cooling down an NMR at a research facility, Metro Welding Supply has the capability and expertise to satisfy your requirements and the courtesy to appreciate your business. In a commodity based world we can deliver personalized value.

Nitrogen is an inert gas which has several industrial, laboratory, medical, research and manufacturing applications. Being by nature dry and inert nitrogen is a perfect purging gas, and has various applications as both a gas and a liquid. As a liquid, nitrogen has temperature of below -196C which makes it ideal for long term specimen storage and flash freezing. Nitrogen is also frequently used in the food packaging industries to preserve food and displace oxygen. Laser cutting requires large volumes of nitrogen gas at high and consistent pressures. Metro Welding supply has installed systems which suit the unique requirements of each of these industries. Our capabilities include high pressure bulk and micro-bulk systems, cylinder and multiple cylinder cradles, and change over/reserve systems. Metro Welding Supply has the unique ability to react to your requirements, and deliver on a timely and consistent basis.
